Vertical compositions like this are great for atmosphere and emphasis, and it seems like a technique a lot of digital painters forget about. The illustrations are very nice as well. Are they done digitally? If so, they still look organic, like they were done with pencil and paper, another aesthetic often lost when painting is done digitally.

Indeed, I always like the tall vertical comp. it just gives you that other point of view. I drew the lineart with pen and then colored of course with photoshop.
Yeah, I agree, I like the rough sketch look of pencil and paper, the best I can do is use pen to go over the pencil because pen allows you to kind of keep that feel.
